Military monitors all MILF camps

SEVERAL camps of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) all over Mindanao are now being closely monitored by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) after Monday's simultaneous attacks made by the Moro rebels in Lanao and Sarangani provinces.

In an interview at the Army's 104th Brigade headquarters in Iligan City Tuesday, AFP vice chief of staff Lieutenant General Cardoso Luna said they have identified the MILF areas in the Cotabato-Maguindanao area as well as those in Lanao provinces as the most active these days.

He said other MILF camps, especially those in the Davao Region, are considered as dormant but nevertheless are also being watched just in case.

The MILF camps in Southern Mindanao are located in Tarragona in Davao Oriental, Pantukan in Compostela Valley, and Sarangani in Davao del Sur.

Luna said displaced residents of Kauswagan, Kolambugan, and Linamon are now safe to return to their homes as the Army did not find any landmines left by the rebels.

He urged the Commission on Human Rights to investigate the atrocities committed by the MILF rebels as well as their habit on leaving landmines in areas they forcibly occupy.

More than 20,000 evacuees are still staying at evacuation centers in Iligan City, Ozamis City and Tubod in Lanao del Norte. (BOT)
