Saturday, August 23, 2008 Villar catching up with Loren in survey
IT'S still an ongoing race, and this time Senate President Manuel Villar is battling it out with Senator Loren Legarda for the second spot in the latest survey results as the next President of the country in 2010.
Vice President Noli de Castro, however, continues to remain on the top spot of the same survey of the Social Weather Station (SWS), which was released last August 19 and conducted last June 27 to 30, 2008. No list of names was provided during the survey.
De Castro garnered 31 percent, followed by Legarda at a far second with 26 percent, and Villar ranked third with 25 percent.
Surprisingly, former President Joseph Estrada only ranked seventh, with only 11 percent.
Senator Panfilo Lacson, who ran and lost in the 2004 presidential elections, ranked a far fourth with only 16 percent.
Of the top eight candidates, six are currently senators, one former President, and an incumbent Vice President. Other senators who rounded up the top eight are Francis Escudero, Mar Roxas, and Francis Pangilinan.
The SWS survey said that 1,200 respondents were made part of the survey, with 300 from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The SWS added that the survey was not commissioned and was done upon the initiative of the SWS.
(CPM)
