VINCENT Umayan of Davao City scored perfect seven points to pocket the Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte-Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte Kadayawan Open Chess Tournament at the Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) students' lounge Sunday.
Umayan defeated Gerald Cavan in the final seventh round of the Swiss System format event sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)-Southern Mindanao.
Reynaldo Quionez and Jerwel Andoy garnered 6.5 points each to share the second to third spots while Cavan, Irwin Aton, National Master (NM) Cedric Magno, Henry Lopez, Jay Bulicatin, Jacob Literatus and Ruel Nuttal each tallied six points to share the fourth to 10th places.
NM Carlo Rosaupan earned 5.5 points to occupy the 11th to 16th place with Robert Toledo, Peter Tidoy, Reynaldo Gempero, Rhynan Arce and Eric Fernandez.
A total of 233 woodpushers competed in the event presented by Mayor Duterte and Vice Mayor Duterte through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office as part of the Kadayawan Sports Festival.
Cash prizes and medals were awarded to the winners. (MLSA)
