"Our goal is for every community to have a Kalimudan Center or a village museum that will showcase their arts. This in support for the preservation of our indigenous communities," Garcia said in a press conference Wednesday.

In Davao City, the tribes eyed to establish a center for are the Bagobo-Tagabawas, K'lata, Ovu-Manuvu, and Matigsalogs.

Tribes in Tarragona and Cateel in Davao Oriental, Maco and New Bataan in Compostela Valley, and the Tagakaulo and B'laan of Davao del Sur are also included for this year.

Garcia said the richness and diversity of the region's indigenous people is definitely an edge in becoming the center for indigenous people's art in Mindanao.

"We are even planning to create an IP arts guild here as the project goes on. I am sure it will expand to involve more artistic areas in the long run," Garcia said. (GLP)
