Power interruption mars Minbizcon opening

DIPOLOG CITY -- Drums rolled when the parades of color signal the start of the 17th Mindanao Business Conference at the Zamboanga Norte Convention Center here Thursday afternoon. A few minutes after, the power went off.

Delegates to the biggest business gathering in Mindanao were caught by surprise when they were consumed by darkness for more than five minutes before the power resumed.

Regional Tourism Council chair Allan Ranillo jested that the power interruption was "part of the program" to keep them in suspense.

Event host and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry regional governor for Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) and Western Mindanao Edwin Capili explained that the power interruption must be due to the bombing of a transmission tower in Lanao Wednesday.

He said the capacity of the Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative must have been affected by the tower bombing that resulted in the reduction of power supply to the province.

Upon the return of power, everything went on as scheduled and without any more hitches. (BOT)
