'Lumba Bisiklita' fires off Saturday

CLOSE to 150 riders will compete in the Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte-Vice Mayor Sara Duterte Lumba Bisiklita that unreels at 8 a.m. on Saturday from the City Hall Drive to Calinan National High School.

Race director Salvador Paholio Jr. said: "There will be a road bike open elite team and individual classification, veterans 40 years old and above, women's open and mountain bike (MTB) junior 20 years old and under categories."

Paholio said a motorcade will start at the City Hall Drive going to Buhangin where the race proper will begin.

"The race route will pass through Diversion Road, Ulas, Puan, Baliok, Bago Gallera, Tugbok and will stop at the Calinan National High School," Paholio said in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.

The cycling body head said cash prizes will be given away to the winners of all categories.

The road bike open elite champion will pocket P5,000 while the next two placers will receive P3,000 and P2,000. The top 10 riders will each claim an Inday Sara t-shirt each.

The individual classification and MTB junior 20-under top three finishers will pocket P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000 while the veterans and women's open first three riders will go home with P1,000, P750 and P500, respectively.

The free registration bikefest is organized by Samahang Siklista Kooperatiba ng Dabaw (Ssikad) and Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office and sanctioned by PhilCycling Davao.

The event is presented by Mayor Duterte and Vice Mayor Duterte as supported by Emperador Distillers, maker of Emperador Brandy, as part of the Kadayawan sa Dabaw sports festival.

Karancho Barangay 76-A headed by Barangay Captain Robert Olanolan is also supporting the event. (MLSA)
