Sunday, August 31, 2008 Garcia rules Dutba monthly finals
HE WAS the ninth and last qualifier but Romy Garcia proved to be the best in the field when he captured the Durian Tenpin Bowlers Association (Dutba) August Monthly Finals title at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Lanes Friday evening.
Garcia, who gained a twice-to-beat advantage by garnering a total of 1,207 pinfalls in six games, beat Nandie Subido in their titular showdown.
Subido, who was at number 4 when he entered the step-the-ladder finals, arranged a finals encounter with Garcia after eliminating number 3 Ramon Angeles and then upsetting number 2 Paul Rabe, a retired government employee.
Rabe struck for a total of 1,145 pinfalls while Angeles scored 1,131 en route to the step-the-ladder finals.
Garcia went home with the champion's purse of P3,000 and a trophy, while Subido received P2,000 and a trophy. Rabe, on his part, settled for P1,000 and a medal.
The other monthly qualifiers were Kitz Fabia¤a, Romy Sy, William Lam, Romy Serrano and Ed Sulamin.
The regular weekly qualifying will resume on Friday. (MLSA)
