Tuesday, September 02, 2008 How to make yourself happy By Mommy Sue
ALL right! We're all interested in finding out the latest skin care tips. For me, it's almost akin to shopping for the latest shoes and bags. My dresser looks like an alchemist workshop but with a twist of Saks all with the deadly intent of keeping my youthful looks.
Glad to say that the thousands of dollars of products I have are able to hold father time at bay.
However, my perfect-skinned friend Kaye let me in on a secret: I don't need to spend this much to get the results I want. I just need to follow some skin care basics and it would be enough for my wants.
She tells me this after I spent half of my inheritance! But judging by the results, I'd do whatever Kaye says. So here goes:
Skin Care Basics
* Keep your skin clean. Oily and dirty skin can breed germs. A gentle facial wash is often enough to give you clear complexion.
* Drink enough water. Your skin needs to be hydrated internally as well as externally.
* Alcohol dries up your skin. There are a lot of alcohol-free facial cleaners in the market. Choose one that suits you.
* The skin around the eyes is thinnest. Don't pull or tug them. Be gentle. Remember, that's where the fine lines start.
* Long steam, sauna and hot baths have immediate drying effects. Keep them short.
* Pat your skin dry after bathing. Rubbing dry towels on wet skin can cause damage. Apply a body lotion to seal in the moisture.
* Night = heavy moisturizers; day= light moisturizers (under your make-up).
* If you have sensitive skin, make sure that you use products that prevent irritation.
* Exercise, exercise, exercise! A mantra worth repeating over and over again. It increases your circulation and gives your skin a healthy glow.
* To close your pores, use cold water to wash your face. Living in a tropical country, the heat tends to open your pores. Throw in a tray or two of ice in a basin of water and immerse you face in it. The effect can be immediately felt.
* Make sure to apply lotion to your knees, elbows, and feet after showering.
* A simple anti-bacterial soap can be at times enough to clear skin blemishes.
* Get adequate sleep. Lack of it can wreak havoc on your skin. A good night's sleep will help make your skin radiant.
* How do you get rid of those saddlebags under your eyes? Try putting a couple of spoons in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Apply to your eyes to reduce the swelling.
Most of all, make sure that you get all the necessary vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and bio-active herbs your body needs daily.
