Ulama League endorses Duterte to peace panel
By Carlo P. Mallo

THE Ulama League of the Philippines for Southern Mindanao has officially endorsed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to be part of the new government peace panel that will deal with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has disbanded the present government peace panel, which was part in the creation of the controversial Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD).

In a press conference Wednesday at the Philippine Information Agency-Southern Mindanao, Aleem Mahmod Adilao, chair of the ULP-Southern Mindanao, said that they want Duterte to become part of peace panel based on the city mayor's credentials and performance.

"Mindanao's problems can only be solved by the people of Mindanao," Adilao said.

In a letter addressed to President Arroyo, the regional group of ULP said that they highly "recommend Mayor Rodrigo Duterte himself of Davao City to be on the Government Peace Panel. We all know him as a man of integrity who has the political will and a man of accomplishment."

The group continued that Duterte has been known as a strong leader whose heart is solely for the good and welfare of the people.

The ULP added that Duterte's participation in the peace process would be as a strong contender in the side of the government peace panel.

The statement added that the peace panel should be comprised of men and women with full integrity that will translate the real sentiments of each group.
