Heavy rains expected in Southern Mindanao

MORE rains are expected as an Inter Tropical Convergent Zone continues to affect the weather system of Southern Mindanao and the rest of the country.

Cloudy skies and heavy downpours will be experienced in the region, which might trigger more landslides.

At least 10 people were reported missing and eight confirmed dead after two landslides hit a village in Maco, Compostela Valley last Saturday and Sunday due to the heavy rains experienced in the area.

The weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa) showed that Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

Southern Mindanao will continue to experience rainy weather for the entire week.

The weather bureau also said that light to moderate winds will be blowing from the southeast. Coastal waters will vary from slight to moderate, except during thunderstorms.

However, despite the rainy weather, temperatures in the region will vary from a high of 31 degrees Celsius to a low of 23 degrees Celsius.

Humidity in the region will be at a high of 92 percent shortly before dawn while it will be at a low of 64 percent in the late afternoon. (CPM)
