Inter-Parish sports meet to be held in Davao City

DAVAO City may not be able to defend its title in the canceled Mindanao Friendship Games (MFG) revival in Tubod, Lanao del Norte but it will still have its hands full with the Children's Games and Inter-Parish Sportsfest this year.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) William "Butch" Ramirez made the announcement to sportswriters during a press conference at the Whaw Grill and Restaurant on Saturday evening that the Children's Games for 12 years old and below will push through as scheduled in October.

"We will launch the Games, which will focus on 10 sports, in Davao City. It is a part of our sports for peace program in Mindanao," Ramirez said.

The Games is patterned after the World Children's Games in San Francisco although PSC's version of the sportsfest for children will be modified to fit the sports for peace program in Mindanao.

The PSC chief said in a previous statement that the Children's Games, however, would be for public schools. It will focus on 10 priority sports of the PSC including boxing, taekwondo, wushu, athletics, and swimming.

Ramirez added that they would also sponsor an Inter-Parish sports activity covering the three districts of the city. He said details of the meet are still being finalized but it will be held late this year. (MLSA)
