Brad's Feet
By Rene Lizada
Papa's table

MY HAIR grows fast. It grows so fast that I have to go to the salon every two weeks to have my haircut otherwise I would like a mop. It is expensive and downright annoying because I really hate having a haircut. It is messy, itchy, and unpleasant. But I am lucky because the salon I go to was a lot of fun and Nene who does my hair is really good at what she does. Also I guess, I must consider myself lucky because having hair that grows fast is better than not having hair at all.

And so it was I ended up in the salon after two weeks. And when I sit there I face a dilemma, a problem of biblical proportions. What kind of hair style would I have this time. Of course that is always my problem and of course I always end up with the same style.

I am just too scared to try a different hairstyle. Many years ago I tried having a skinhead and my wife almost disowned me. When she saw me with the skinhead she just said three words that spelled doom, "hindi ka bagay." That was it, three of the most painful words I have ever heard, "hindi ka bagay."

I promised myself that from that time, I would never have a skinhead ever again as long as I had hair. But there are days when I am tempted, there are days when I just want Nene to take the razor and just shave every lock and tress. And it has nothing to do with aesthetics; it has everything to do with the budget. If I have a skinhead, then I do not have to have my haircut for at least a month and I could use the money for a massage, which is a lot better than having a haircut.

So as I sat there in the chair, Nene asks the inevitable question, "Ano gawin natin sa buhok mo Sir?? And I swear I can hear my hair saying, "Ano gawin mo sa akin Sir?" This time I had an ally. The sheet that covered my body was decorated with pictures of men and women who had different hairstyles.

So I started looking at them. One assistant said: "Sir naa bay buslot?" I said no, I was just looking at the images and hopefully I would be inspired as to what kind of hair I would like to have this time. So I was looking and Nene was waiting and then she said something, "kung gusto mo Sir, gayahain natin yung buhok ni Brad Pitt."

Then she said that there were pictures of Brad in some of the magazines. I said about something about Ocean's Eleven. And then I said, what the heck let us try the style of Brad Pitt. So I take off my glasses, close my eyes and hand over my destiny to Nene. And she starts cutting.

And as I settle down, I start to wonder. What would I look like after my Brad Pitt hair? Would I look like him? (Which is impossible!) Or would I end up looking like some of the characters he portrayed? Since I am not much of a Brad Pitt fan I was having limited choices here.

Let me see, there was Ocean's Eleven to Thirteen, Interview With a Vampire, Troy, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, A River Runs Through It and that family epic which I cannot remember. While I was thinking about all these I was starting to get sleepy which always happens to me when I have my hair cut. So here I was doddering and nodding and thinking of how my Brad Pitt hair would look.
After thirty minutes my hair was done but I still had to do the obligatory shampoo.

After the shampoo and the conditioner, I was ready. I was led back to my chair with a towel wrapped on my head. An assistant unwrapped the towel revealing my hair, my Brad Pitt hair. I picked up my glasses and peered into the mirror. My haircut was actually good. As to whether it had the Brad Pitt look was something I could only imagine.

I was trying to picture in my mind how Brad's hair was in Ocean's Eleven. I could imagine him in Troy but I was having a difficult time with Ocean's Eleven. I gave up. My hair after all looked good. Nene has a special touch. She is one of those rare people who can tame my hair and make me look good.

I looked at my entire face. My hair was good. The only thing was I did not look like Brad Pitt, more of Brad's feet. But hey as I said looking like Brad Pitt would be impossible. So I had to be content with my hair. As it is, my hair by my standards is quite long so that means I will be back in two weeks again.

I wonder if there is such a thing as Ho Hoy hair!
