Friday, September 12, 2008 Rody appeals anew for halt to motorcycle baggage rule
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte reiterated his request to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for a moratorium on the implementation of new motorcycle guidelines, particularly on the amount of baggage the vehicle can carry.
This in reaction to reports that LTO personnel have continued apprehending motorists with baggage, like those who have baskets of products attached to the vehicle despite the mayor's appeal.
Duterte even met with lawyer Jesus Zozobrado III, LTO-Southern Mindanao assistant regional director, Wednesday afternoon to make this request known.
Zozobrado committed to heed the request, saying they will only call the attention of the motorists on the road to orient them and not to apprehend.
"Nanghangyo na ko sa ila. Pero kung gahi gyud, I'm saying I want you to stop it. Lisud man gud ni kaayo kung imo dayung i-implement. Kanang mga mamaligya ug pan nga naay basket sa ilang mga motor, kung imo nang dakpon," the mayor said on Thursday after being informed of the continued apprehensions.
Duterte said he will have another talk with LTO to clear the issue once and for all. (GLP)
