Communist group hit man arrested
THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Southern Mindanao reported Wednesday the arrest of one of the assassins of the New People's Army (NPA) in Montevista, Compostela Valley.
The suspect, identified as a certain Fernando C. Arteza alias "Kumander Jojo," was found out to be the commander of the "Ka Paking Guimbaolibot Red Partisan Brigade/Special Operations Group-Special Partisan Unit (SOG-Sparu)" of the rebel group.

Arteza was arrested last September 15, 2008 around 6 p.m., in Barangay Poblacion, Montevista, Compostela Valley Province.
Based on the investigation report of PRO 11, barangay chief Eutropio Jayectin sought police assistance regarding the presence of two unidentified suspicious-looking persons near his residence at Purok 4, Poblacion, Montevista, Comval Province.
When the police arrived, one of the men tried to draw his short firearm from his waist, but he was disarmed by the responding policemen and arrested.
The man turned out to be Arteza, 32 years old, single and a resident of Purok 2, Salvacion, Agusan del Sur.
The other man, only identified as a certain alias "Rayray", was able to flee while firing a handgun.
The police were able to confiscate the following items from the possession of Arteza: one unit caliber .45 pistol with three magazines loaded with live ammunition, subversive documents, two units of Nokia cell phone, a bonnet, a holster for cal .45 pistol, and one unit red Honda XLR MC without plate number.
The police report showed that the apprehended suspect confessed that he is a member of the NPA operating under the command of "Kumander Jassy" of FC-3.
Arteza is now under the custody of the Montevista MPS for further investigation and proper disposition. (CPM/With press release)
