COUNCILOR Ma. Belen Sunga-Acosta was awarded the Kabalikat Award by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) for being an outstanding partner in the promotion and development of technical-vocational education.
Tesda Provincial Director Armando Aquino gave Councilor Ma. Belen Sunga-Acosta her plaque as Kabalikat Awardee of Tesda Davao City for the Local Government Unit Category during a break in Tuesday's session.
Acosta, chair of the City Council committee on education, spearheaded livelihood seminars in various barangays in partnership with Tesda, including basic baking courses and cosmetology. Her office has also sponsored students to avail of Tesda courses like refrigeration, automotive, and welding.
Aquino said that with support such as this from local government, the skills of Filipino workers will truly be enhanced.
It was Davao Oriental Representative Thelma Almario, however, who got the top Kabalikat Award in the national level. (GLP)
