Wednesday, September 24, 2008 A fun place called Spirale Ristorante By Grace L. Plata
IF YOU think spiraling always entails down and out in a disastrous situation, wait until you get a taste of Spirale Ristorante Italiano and you'll surely have a change of mind.
Owned by engaged couple Raffy Garcia and Chef Annamarie Cacho, Spirale differs from the quiet, serious and high-end atmosphere of most Italian restaurants in Davao City.
Its homey, cozy, and brightly lit interior would surely attract families and friends for casual dining. Adding to its charm is the fact that it is situated in a quiet nook of the Damosa Park.
The counter, which is situated low, affords children a peek on how their pizza is made. Its floor is decorated with a playful spiral patterned tiles.
Anamarie, who does the marketing and prepares the foundation for each delicious concoction, says she want the restaurant to be a "fun" place.
"It is just so casual and easy but with great food," she said.
Among their brick-oven pizza offerings are the simple Margherita (tomato and mozzarella; the all white Quatro Formaggio (spread of four cheeses); the diet-friendly Tutto Spirale (tomato, mozarella, air-dried beef, roasted eggplant, asparagus and capers; and the mouth-watering Gordo (tomato, mozzarella, salami, ham, sausages and olives).
A possible kid's favorite is the colorful, tangy Salsicce (corkscrew pasta with cream, tomato, Italian sausage, mushrooms, garlic and basil).
For dessert, the house specialty of creamy Cappucino Mio surely hits the spot for those who are not-so-sweet tooths while the Tiramisu will cater to those with decadent cravings.
Spirale also has a wide array of red and white wines to compliment the food while its abundantly stacked shelf of products will lure those who want a taste of Italy in their own homes.
Spirale opens at lunchtime daily and closes at 10 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends.
