Ultra hip shirts for Dabawenyos
By Jojie Alcantara

AS I am always in support of friends who make Davao-based businesses, here is one hip shirt wear for Dabawenyos and visitors who love Davao City. As a proud Dabawenya, I have quite a collection of their shirts. One day soon, I hope to design shirts for them too.

Coed Clothing Co. is a new line of clothing local to Davao, with products reflecting Davao then and now, from local sports to public transports, from ever changing city streets to the highest peak -- basically anything and everything seen, heard, built, and created around the city.

The designs also showcase what the Dabawenyo grew up with, turning simple things like jeepney routes, street games and expressions into vibrant modernized and trendy icons. It's a way of showing young generations what was hip, what was hot back then, and to remind the earlier generations of the glory days.

Coed Clothing Co. products are not souvenir shirts, but an identity. The designs will identify when you were born, where you're from and what genre you belong. Coed seeks ways to produce more creative designs to satisfy earlier and young generation's craze.

In the 80's, Coed does not sell clothing, but was in the food industry, a business then owned by spouses Cornelio and Eden Caguiat (hence the name Co-Ed).

The eldest son, Yamboy and his younger brother Paolo (Tibor) are artists. Their simple hobby turned into an income generating business. By 2001, TBR concepts - an Automobile graphic design company, was established and manned by Paolo.

In 2004, Great Effects Embroideries Unlimited -- a digitized embroidery business, was established by Yamboy. In line with the creative concepts and graphic/vector designs, the siblings decided to put up an apparel brand.

After years of hesitation due to the pressures of the fast-changing fashion commerce, finally an idea was made into reality. In 2007, Yamboy yet again created a new division of the family business, still carrying the name well loved by his family -- Coed Clothing Co.

Coed Clothing Tees are exclusively available at Sunlab, 2nd Floor Gaisano Mall of Davao, Bajada Davao City. For details go to www.coedclothingco.com. Best pasalubong for balikbayans.
