Swarm of bees kill soldier in Lanao
By Ben O. Tesiorna

AN ARMY soldier was killed during a military operation in Lanao del Sur last week.

His death, however, was not caused by bullets but by the sting of bees.

A report posted at the MILF website, www.luwaran.com, said a huge swarm of bees attacked the Army soldiers from the 15th Infantry Battalion while hunting down the group of MILF's Kumander Bravo in the mountains of Madamba, Lanao del Sur Wednesday last week.

Ninety percent of the whole company in the mission suffered from stings in various parts of their body.

A soldier died as a result of bee stings all over his body, while scores of others are being treated at a hospital in Iligan City, the report stated.

"It was a terrible attack that we never had the training to cope up with such attack. Our automatic weapons were simply useless against the flying enemy," the report quoted one soldier as saying when interviewed at the hospital.

Efforts to get confirmation about the incident from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) proved futile as of this writing Sunday.

The area is under the Western Mindanao Command of the AFP.
