Mother Butler Mission holds confab in Davao
By Grace L. Plata

ABOUT a thousand Catholic women from all over the country gathered in Davao City Sunday for the 21st Mother Butler Mission Guilds (MBMG) Convention held at the Apo View Hotel.

MBMGs are church-based womens' organizations that supply linens and vestment used by priests during the mass and other liturgical activities.

"We give them to priests and parishes especially yung poor ones. Meron din kasing parishes na walang MBMG. Those who want to give it as gifts to the parishes or the priest can buy from us pero mura lang," Raquel Castillo of the MBMG Davao Chapter said Sunday.

Castillo said it is the way to share their "time, talent and treasure" with the church.

Among the lecture topics are liturgical symbols that these women weave by hand on the cloth.

"Iba-iba ang colors and symbols sewn on the vestment based on the liturgical calendar," Castillo said.

Also part of the convention is an exhibit of the MBMG's best work - vestments with intricate hand woven designs, as well as those that are hand painted.
