Rob, slay attempt case of soldier now with court

THE Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 14 will be handling the case filed against a man accused of robbing and trying to kill a member of the Philippine Army assigned in Tacurong in December last year.

RTC Branch 14 Judge George Omelio has yet to schedule the arraignment of Makakena Alimuden Kapusan Jr. alias Mac-mac Sinsuat, a resident of Rosales Street, Cotabato City, who was charged with robbery with attempted homicide.

Prosecutor Carlos Castaños found probable cause to hold him for court trial based on the complaint of the victim, PFC Biwan Udie Lumanda of 75th Infantry Battalion in Tacurong City.

Lumanda claimed to have been requested to serve as escort of Kapusan when he travelled to Cagayan de Oro on December 24, 2007.

Around 9 a.m. of December 28, 2007, back in Davao City, Kapusan and his companion alighted from the taxi they hired from Cagayan de Oro City.

This companion pointed a gun at Lumanda while Kapusan grabbed his armalite rifle, 9mm pistol, and five pieces long and short magazines.

Lumanda claimed the two men fired at him but missed.

Castaños recommended a bailbond of P100,000 for the respondent's temporary liberty. (RMH)
