Crusaders post fourth straight win in GS Cup

THE Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders clobbered defending champion Ateneo De Davao University Blue Knights, 63-43, to extend their winning streak to four in the 6th Gaisano South Cup College Division 1 Saturday night before a capacity crowd at GS Skygym.

The Crusaders banked on their second stringers to remain undefeated and take a solo lead in the standing, one game ahead of University of Mindanao Wildcats, who tamed Agro Industrial Foundation College Sailors, 90-76, for their third win in as many games.

Prolific forward Levi Ochate had a double-double performance to lead the charge for Holy Cross, which showed excellent teamwork.

Ochate, who is undeniably short of his position but managed to keep pace with the much-taller big men, poured in 10 points aside from getting 10 rebounds, three steals, and three assists.

Holy Cross, coached by Adel Gino Nobleza, also drew huge showing from Michael Rosal and Bryan Jones Rosete, who had 12 and nine points, respectively.

Ateneo managed to break Holy Cross's bread and butter pressure defense, but the Blue Knights could not find their shots to sink all game long.

Last year's season MVP Miguel Solitaria and Finals ace player Richard Madelo had a hard time drilling in their shots.

Solitaria, touted as the "King Blue Knight," went 5-of-15 from the field and two for six from the stripe for 12 points. Madelo was 4-of-18 from the field.

It was only Matt Cabigas who played well for Ateneo, which dropped to 1-1 win loss record in the tournament backed by Unilever, Procter and Gamble and Sunsport.
