Oscar will pulverize Pacquiao, says lawmaker

A LAWMAKER has predicted the defeat of world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao in his much-anticipated fight with superstar Oscar De la Hoya in December.

"He is going to be pulverized there. I believe he has no chance at all. Pacquiao will be destroyed by dela Hoya," said Representative Rufus Rodriguez (2nd District, Cagayan de Oro City).

During the budget hearing of the Games and Amusement Board (GAB), Rodriguez said the fight with dela Joya is one fight that Pacquiao should not take considering their disparity in size.

Pacquaio, according to Rodriguez, has a four-inch height disadvantage and he is going up two weight divisions after only one fight in the lightweight category to face Dela Hoya.

Rodriguez said this is also the only fight of Pacquaio in which he can say with all honesty that commercialism should stop.

"The way I see it, this is only money for Manny Pacquaio," Rodriguez said.

During the hearing, GAB Chairman Eric Buhain said when the news came out that Pacquiao's fight with Dela Hoya was scheduled in December, the GAB made a resolution stating its position against the fight.

Buhain said the resolution was sent to the management of Pacquaio and even the international boxing bodies like the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO.

"We all know that Pacquiao is a national treasure and we want to ensure his safety," Buhain said.

Buhain said there is no way the GAB can stop the fight especially since it will be held in the United States.

The Nevada Boxing Commission has also allowed the fight to push through, according to Buhain.
