KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A policeman working as bodyguard of an environment official in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) was shot dead by another bodyguard-policeman inside a government agency in Cotabato City.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Monday, reports from the Cotabato City Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
Senior Superintendent Willie Dangane, chief of the Cotabato City Police, identified the slain bodyguard as Police Officer 1 Naro Kamaong of the PNP-Armm.
Kamaong works as security escort of an official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Armm.
The witnesses identified the suspect as Police Officer 1 Shamer Emblawa, son of DENR-Armm Secretary Datu Kabuntalan Emblawa.
Dangane, in an interview over dxMS, said that minutes before the shooting, the two had a heated argument on some personal matters. Both were armed with high-powered guns, reports said.
Witnesses also said that while the two were arguing inside the office of a government agency at the Gov. Gutierrez Avenue in Cotabato City, Emblawa took his firearm and shot Kamaong in different parts of his body. Kamaong died on the spot.
Dangane said the killing of Kamaong is an "isolated case" and has not, in any way, affected the over-all security situation of the city.
Kamaong's death came at least six hours after two motorcycle-riding suspects shot dead SPO1 Bonifacio Sales Jr., of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) who was based in Davao City, after they trailed him for few minutes along Notre Dame Avenue in Cotabato City, Monday morning.
Also, around 7 p.m. Monday, a fresh Computer Science graduate in Cotabato City was shot dead by a still unidentified group of teenagers outside an Internet café along Sinsuat Avenue.
Dangane identified the victim as Justin Ambolodto Mamandis, resident of Barangay Rosary Heights-13 in Cotabato City.
Initial reports said that before Mamandis was shot, he received beatings from the teenagers.
After making sure their target was dead, the suspects sped away onboard their vehicles.
When police arrived at the crime scene, they only saw the lifeless body of Mamandis.
None, among the onlookers, however, was willing to tell the police the identities of the killers because of fear, police said.
