By Marianne Saberon-Abalayan

ORGANIZERS of the Vic Sai Sports Journalism Awards will accept entries starting on December 1, 2008 to January 15, 2009.

Davao City Councilor Peter T. Laviña, also president of the Davao City Sports Council Inc., in a statement, said major awards will be given to the best sports news story, best sports news feature, best sports column article and best sports photograph.

Laviña said the entries must be a readable actual copy or a photocopy of the actual publication in English, Filipino or Visayan indicating the name of the newspaper, only based in Davao City, name of the reporter/writer/columnist/photographer, date of publication, must be between January 1 to December 31, 2008 and address/contact numbers of nominees.

"A nominee shall be entitled to a maximum of five entries only in each category. The first phase of judging will be done between January 16 to February 15 where the best three entries in each category will be selected," he said.

The criteria for judging, according to him, are factuality, clarity, creativity and impact.

Laviña said the second phase of judging is set on February 16 to March 15 where the top entries will be chosen for the major awards to be given on April 9, the birthday of the late DCSCI president Vic Sai.

The two other finalists in each category, however, will receive consolation prizes while the best sports section of a high school newspaper and best sports section of a college newspaper will receive citations.
