Taiwan envoy, German lawmakers visit Davao
By Carlo P. Mallo

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte played host to at least three foreign dignitaries who visited the city Wednesday afternoon, including the official envoy of the island state of Taiwan.

"They are here on visits of goodwill," Duterte told reporters at the lobby of the Marco Polo Hotel after his meeting with Taiwan envoy to Philippines Ambassador Donald Lee.

Aside from the envoy of Taiwan, Duterte also had a closed-door meeting with two German legislators, Juergen Klimke and Helmut Koenigshaus, who both belonged to the counterpart of the House of Representatives, known as the German Bundestag.

"They are visiting parliamentarians who want observe the city and probe what Germany can do to help in the enhancement of government functions," the city mayor said.

The two German parliamentarians were accompanied by Pit Heltmann, the deputy head of mission and counselor of the German Embassy here in the Philippines.
It was learned that it was only the city of Davao in the entire Mindanao which the two parliamentarians visited.

"I guess I should be proud of that," the mayor was heard telling the two parliamentarians. (CPM)
