Charity workout at Rizal Park

THE SOS Children's Village Davao and Feed the Children Foundation of the Philippines (FCFP) are beneficiaries of the Coke Halika Charity Workout 2008 Davao City leg set at 6 a.m. on Saturday at Rizal Park.

Event manager Tammy Ferrer of the Grupo Sorbetero bared this to members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) during their weekly forum at the Tower Inn yesterday.

"This is a free charity workout where every calorie burned by participants is a corresponding one peso for the beneficiaries. All the participants have to do is go to Rizal Park with their proper workout attire including rubber shoes and join the workout," Ferrer said.

She said the 6 a.m. session will benefit FCFP while the next session will have SOS Children's Village Davao as beneficiary.

Ferrer said Davao City Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, who will make an appearance during the workout, was the one who identified the charities.

"We expect the Davao leg to surpass the record set by Cebu with close to 900 participants. We hope to hit 1,000 here so the Davao charities can receive more," she said.

Ferrer added that the Cebu leg held on September 13 raised a total of P230,000 for two beneficiaries with one session alone generating P157,000.

She confirmed that PBA star Kenneth Duremdes will join the Davao workout, while popular celebrity comedian Wilma Doesnt will host the event.

"This workout is for every one from all walks of life and from all ages. We encourage you to support the event. Join the fun and be able to help charities," Ferrer said.
