Saturday, October 11, 2008 Dole: Services sector gets biggest share of employment By Joy Romares-Sevilla
AN OFFICIAL of the regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Southern Mindanao said most workers in the Davao Region are with the services sector.
Ofelia Domingo, Dole-Southern Mindanao assistant regional director, Wednesday said the employment rate of the Davao Region as of July 2008 was placed at 93.4 percent and almost 50 percent of the rate is incorporated for the services sector.
"Of the 50 percent for the services sector, 15 to 20 percent are employed in call center companies," Domingo said.
Domingo further said that contact center agents are in demand now, adding that the Public Employment Services Office (Peso), which is also under the Dole-Southern Mindanao, has about 20,000 vacancies for contact center companies.
"Out of the 60,000 job vacancies sa Peso, about 20,000 job orders will be coming from the call centers," Domingo said.
Domingo also said that a forthcoming jobs fair to be conducted in coordination with the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) will also be offering jobs for the services sector.
Domingo earlier said they are targeting about 10,000 vacancies to be filled by qualified applicants.
The jobs fair was set during the staging of the Davao Trade Expo (Date) 2008 on October 23 to 25 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center.
The event will also be conducted in partnership with the ABS-CBN local news network.
