Cop killed, 4 others hurt in SK ambush

A POLICEMAN was killed while four of his companions were wounded in an ambush in Buldon, Shariff Kabunsuan Province.

Police identified the dead as PO3 Salonga Tomawis, while the wounded were PO1 hiela Maganding, PO2 Alfatah Tomawis, PO1 Makata Magkato, and one PO3 Badriz.

Based on reports from the Shariff Kabunsuan Police Provincial Office, the victims were in a patrol car for an anti-drugs operation around 7:40 p.m. on October 9 when armed men fired at them with M16 armalite rifles.

Despite being wounded, the victims fired back, resulting in a 30-minute gunfight.

The attackers retreated when reinforcement for the beleaguered policemen arrived.

The wounded were brought to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center in Cotabato City.

The other night, armed men also attacked the Buldon Police Station, wounding two policemen.

Shariff Kabunsuan Provincial Police Director Esmael Pua Ali has deployed more police troops in Buldon. (Garry Fuerzas)
