Saturday, October 11, 2008 Doņa Pilar tops Prisaad chessfest
THE Doņa Pilar Learning Center (DPLC) amassed a total of 25 points to emerge champion at the close of the 2008 Prisaad Games elementary chess team tournament at the SM City Davao Events Centre Thursday.
DPLC beat Montserrat Camp School of Davao (MCSD), Barner Learning Center (BLC), Precious International School of Davao (PISD), and Child of God Learning Center (CGLC) that occupied the second, third, fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
MCSD garnered 22 points, BLC with 21 while PISD got 20 and CGLC finished with 17 points.
Finishing behind were Maa Christian Learning Center (MCLC) with 16, Immanuel School of Davao (ISD) 15, St. Francis Xavier Learning Center (SFXLC) 15, Child Development Learning Center Inc. (CDLCI) 14.5, UCCP Paaralang Pag-asa (UCCP) 14.5, St. Patrick Math-Science School (SPMSS) 14, St. Theresa Community Academy (STCAI) 14, Southpoint School (SS) 12.5, DAvao Christian Learning Center (DCLC) 11, Davao Jones Academy (DJA) six and Davao Wisdom Academy (DWA) four.
In the elementary individual event, Daniel Romeo Borinaga of DPLC topped the seven-round Swiss System format chessfest with perfect points, while his teammate Gino Angelo Asuncion placed second with six points.
MCSD's Marc Isaac was third, while CGLC's Ella Grace Moulic came fourth in the tournament organized by the Private School Administrators Association of Davao (Prisaad).
Nathaniel Yngayo of the Davao Central College (DCC), meanwhile, ruled the secondary individual category. He bested fellow perfect five-point scorers Jason Rojo and Nikki Erica Yngayo also of DCC via tie breaks.
Nathaniel earned 13.5 Bucholz while Rojo had 12.5 for the second spot followed by Nikki (9.5) in third.
DCC went on to win the High School team championship with a total of 19.5 points, while SS (11.5) grabbed the runner-up honors and DWA (11) in third.
Blue Knight Chess Club director Ronnie Tabudlong was tournament director, while Romy Parreņo was chief arbiter. (MLSA)
