Sunday, October 12, 2008 A mother's love By Jinggoy Salvador
IF THERE is one person that can gather every family member in the family tree, it must be mother.
We live in a matriarchal society. Mom somehow gets to say the last word by way of scolding or her sweet words that can sway Dad's decision to benefit the children. We are rewarded with a wink if weget our way and mom always gets a tight hug. It is our only way of showing our gratitude for helping us... again.
Mothers are somehow gifted with superhuman abilities. It makes me believe that we might have been descendants of the Greeks or Romans and all the mothers are goddesses who must have given up living in Olympus and took human form to care for the lesser gods. But we are a Catholic nation, the biggest devotee in the Far East, if not Asia, and we have Mama Mary. Mothers do walk in this plane with invisible halos above their heads.
So it's short of saying, it's a temporary tenure for them to take the most important role in the planet and be mother to her children as gifted by God. They go directly to heaven. That is, after they showed us a glimpse of heaven on earth with their motherly love. Talk about unconditional love and they never run out of it. That beats every ever-ready bunny.
And this sounds like this is a Mother's Day issue.
But every now and then, even with the absence of my mother physically (she is now with lola up there), I have been told by a couple of seeresess who once read my fortune (those were the days!) that mom loves me dearly and is constantly watching over me. They didn't know that she is in Paradise but once I told them, they stuck to what they said. Convenient.
Yes, I know she is still on constant watch over us like a guardian angel. But tell ‘em something I don't know.
Like every parents ultimate dream, the birth of grandchildren marks their ultimate fulfillment. And seeing great grandchildren and great great grandchildren must be a bonus. Seeing the family tree grow and take more branches must make them complete. Imagine gardeners taking great care of their beloved flora. From the day the seed sprouts into a plant, grow, take branches, bear fruit and more fruit over more branches. The TLC is constant - nurturing, forming, and see how they grow. So like mom indeed.
Again, if there is one person who can get everyone in the family tree in one room, it must be mom. That was what happened with the Monteverde Garcia clan... even after a hundred years later.
This family is a huge one. There is an abundance of branches in this tree. To pay tribute their mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, the children and the generations after of Milagros Monteverde Garcia gave this grand dame with a huge bash fit for a queen, a book in her honor and lots of love around passed through every generations.
Her words of advice, love and wisdom, the family's greatest treasure, are taken with heart and passed from branch to branch and she would be proud to see this family grow bigger.
