4 killed, 3 wounded in MILF attack in Sultan Kudarat

FOUR civilians were killed while three others were wounded when suspected Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels attacked a police detachment in Sultan Kudarat Saturday morning, the same day the Bishop-Ulama Conference has appealed to both the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to spare civilians.

Major Roland Rodil of the Army's 25tn Infantry Battalion said the rebels also took two civilians, one a barangay councilor, as hostages.

At 4 a.m. Saturday, rebel troops from an unidentified base command of the MILF opened fire at a police detachment in the vicinity of Barangay Sangay, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat before attacking the civilian community.

The slain civilians were identified as Polinio Alberio, Reynan Cabarobias, Diosdado Cortado, and Edgar Cortado, and the wounded as Joeyboy Bartolome, Jesusa Araniego, and Danilo Gonzaga.

Before escaping, the rebels took with them barangay councilor Luis Colao and a civilian identified as Roel Suma.

Reinforcement troops from the 64th Infantry Battalion were dropped off in the area to help the Kalamansig police drive away the rebels. Hot pursuit operation is ongoing as of Sunday. (BOT)
