Monday, October 13, 2008 Laundrywoman acquitted of theft raps
THE Regional Trial Court acquitted a laundry woman accused of stealing jewelry from her former employer in Matina, Davao City in August last year.
RTC Branch 17 Judge Renato A. Fuentes cleared Ruth Pang Aguilar after the prosecution failed to prove that she indeed stole the jewelry of her accuser.
Aguilar also denied the accusation during arraignment. During her testimony, she admitted that she still frequented her former employer's house and that she was there on August 10, 2007 to refer another helper for possible work.
Presented as prosecution witness was Rosalyn Laborte, a helper of complainant Sybil Angala.
But while Laborte testified that Pang went to Angala's house on August 10, 2007 and even watched them as they cleaned the second floor of the house, Fuentes ruled that "the testimony of Laborte appears inadequate and not accurate".
"In the entire testimony, she cannot be sure and definite (as to) what jewelries were taken by the accused in the room of the Angalas except by generalization and innuendoes," Fuentes further said, thus the acquittal. (RMH)
