Politicos coy about 2010 plans

SENATOR Francis "Chiz" Escudero prefers to remain coy about his plans come 2010, although he can't resist dropping hints.

Escudero is but one of several politicians who have been dropping hints, but refusing to give details of their 2010 plans.

In an interview, the Escudero hinted at what he may be doing in the 2010 polls when he said: "Meron akong mga pangarap at ang aking pangarap ang pinakamataas na pangarap."

"Libre naman yun diba? (Isn't dreaming free?)," Escudero asked while candidly humming the song "I have a dream" by Abba.

Another potential presidential candidate, Vice President Noli de Castro, has been sending mixed signals as to his plans for 2010 though he hinted a possible retirement from public service after his term ends.

During his speech at the 7th National Conference of Career Executive Service Officers at the Apo View Hotel Tuesday last week, de Castro said he plans to simply stay put at home after 2010.

"You know, I plan to remain in the housing sector," de Castro said during his speech, when asked as to what his plans will be after 2010.

"Sa tagalog, ang ibig sabihin ay ito pagdating ng 2010, ang balak ko po ay pumirme na lamang ng bahay," he said.

On the local scene, Davao City Second District Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang neither confirmed nor denied reports that he is planning to run for a seat in the House of Representatives during the 2010 polls.

"I have been in the City Council for 19 years already, but it will all depend on the decision of the party, on the city mayor," Dayanghirang said.

The councilor is part of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's local party dubbed as the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod. Incumbent Second District Representative Vincent Garcia is on his third and final term. (CPM)
