UNIVERSITY of Mindanao’s John Denzel Amar tallied 4.5 points to pocket the 39th BKCC-DCSC Monthly Club Rating Under-14 Chess Tournament title at the Blue Knight Chess Club in Davao City Sunday.
Amar received a champion's trophy while Stella Maris Academy of Davao (Smad) bet Patrick Miguel Aquino and Sta. Ana Central Elementary School's Raymondwill Mirantes received chess CDs for placing second and third, respectively.
Aquino bested fellow four-pointer Mirantes via tiebreak in the tournament organized by BKCC director Ronnie Tabudlong in coordination with the Davao City Sports Council Inc. (DCSCI).
Wounding up in the top 10 were UM's Alvin Acas, SMAD's Josev Omar Aquino, Doña Pilar Learning Development Center's Daniel Rome Borinaga, Emar Learning School's Aprille Dianne Estrecho, Sped-Bangkal's John Cloyd Oria and Monserrat Camp School of Davao's Jon Leonard Ricarse and Kyle Henry Ricarse.
A total of 24 wood pushers saw action in the regular tournament that aims to develop chess players in the grassroots level. (MLSA)
