Councilor swipes at water district again
CITY Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang again swiped the water utility company, this time for being fast in collecting fees and yet very slow in providing safe drinking water to all city residents.
"If they have the right to collect, they must also be able to provide safe drinking water to all," Dayanghirang said during Monday's Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao.

Dayanghirang first pounced on Davao City Water District (DCWD) last week for demanding a beverage company, which is intending to put up operations in the city, to pay a water assessment fee.
DCWD, in its defense, said the fees it aims to collect from the beverage company are provided for by law and that there was nothing illegal about it.
Dayanghirang, who is also majority floor leader of the City Council, reiterated that he was only doing his job in reading the letter of the beverage company amid talks that he is taking the cudgels for Hedcor Inc., which is in a tug-of-war with DCWD for utilization of the Tamugan River.
The DCWD is eyeing the Tamugan River as its source of surface water.
Dayanghirang added that the water utility must act on the complaints of the people, especially in the second district of Davao City wherein there are areas that remain to have no safe drinking water.
"These people pay for the same cost but they cannot drink the water out of their faucets, they have to buy bottled water," Dayanghirang said. "Doble na ang gastos nila (They spend double)." (CPM)
