City mulls computerization scheme

AFTER the City Treasurer's Office embarked on a computerization scheme for its real property tax department, the business department of Davao City is also contemplating the possibility of implementing such program to make application for business permits more easy and manageable.

This was according to Councilor Teresita Marañon, committee chair on ICT, during Wednesday's edition of the Club 888 press forum at the Marco Polo Davao.

"If our budget will allow, we will push for it," she said, adding that if the program will materialize, the business department will already have an online application for business permits. Also, inquiries and other concerns about business licensing shall be made available online.

She added that a company proposes P20 million to P22 million budget allocation for the realization of the program.

Marañon said that last year, the city embarked on a P40 million computerization scheme for its real property tax department dubbed as "Davao City Real Property Tax Computerization Project."

City Treasurer Rodrigo Riola earlier said it is a sophisticated program that would allow the department to immediately see if the previous taxes had been duly paid.

He added that with the computerization program, the proliferation of fake receipts would be eradicated.

"It is an effective and efficient control measure," Riola said, adding that erroneous entries will be detected immediately and also the person who entered such. (JGRS)
