Thursday, October 23, 2008 Military vows to stop Bravo
ARMED Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff General Alexander Yano vowed to neutralize renegade Moro rebel leader Abdullah Macapaar alias Kumander Bravo after the rebel commander challenged the military in a duel to death.
In a statement, Yano said the AFP "has a sacred duty to neutralize person or group that threatens the sovereignty, safety, and integrity of the country."
"Our mission is to protect our sovereignty and ensure the safety and territorial integrity of our country and people. Any person who threatens that is an enemy of our people. The AFP has a sacred duty to neutralize that person or group and we will respond to that duty faithfully and with our fullest will and resolve," Yano said.
Commander Bravo of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) came out on television report this week challenging the military to an "ubusan ng lahi."
He also blamed the government for the bloodshed in Mindanao, saying it was the result of the government's decision to back out from its homeland deal with the MILF. (BOT)
