"The participants here are competing for the semifinal round, the top three winners in this round will be competing for the national competition at the SM Mall of Asia," Yambot said.

He added that the winners in the championship round on November 29 will compete at the Honda Asian competition next year.

Yambot said the national winner will compete with finalists from nine other countries namely Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Pakistan.

According to Noli D. Minor Jr., Mindanao service supervisor, there are nine contestants partcipating in the semifinal round.

"The (semifinal round) participants were from Davao City, Zamboanga City, Iligan, Panabo City, Tagum City, and Tacurong. Originally, there were 137 participants all over Mindanao during the elimination round conducted last October 5," Minor said.

Minor said that in terms of competitiveness and skills, Filipino mechanics are at par with other Asian countries.

"There is a possibility that the Philippines will top during the Asian competition. Last year, the Philippines won," Minor said.

Yambot and Minor said that the activity is done every year to upgrade the skills of Honda mechanics all over the country.

"Our edge over our competitors is we regularly conduct trainings for our mechanics. We also conduct special trainings not only for the mechanics, but also to employees and supervisors," Yambot said.

Minor added that Honda Phils. has 645 mechanics all over the country, 168 are in Mindanao, and 25 are in Davao.

"In Mindanao, Davao City has the biggest number of mechanical personnel," Minor said.

Meanwhile, Yambot said Honda Phils. has been doing well in the past six months this year and it has consistently surpassed its performance target.

"Our target is 60 percent every month, we even achieved 61 percent and 62 percent for the past months," Yambot said. (JGRS)
