Corazon Dayrit, manager of the Nida's Flowershop, told Sun.Star that prices of flowers this year are higher compared to the same period last year.
"Last year we also increased prices during All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, but not as much as P40. There's no abundant supply of flowers this time because of the unpredictable condition of the climate," Dayrit said.
She said they increased prices of flowers starting on October 29 after their suppliers also increased their prices.
Dayrit said the most saleable flowers are mums and orchids pegged at P140 and P120 per dozen, respectively. On regular days, mums are sold at P120 per dozen, while orchids are sold at P80 per dozen.
"A lot of our customers also look for local variety of roses, but we ran out of supply. They prefer to buy it because it is only sold at P40 per dozen, while the Holland variety is P140," Dayrit said, adding that the prices of local variety of roses on regular days are at P20 per dozen, while the Holland variety is at P100.
Dayrit said the increase in the prices of flowers will last until November 2.
"We will have our regular pricing on November 3," she disclosed.
Prices of anthurium are at P250 per dozen for the Holland variety, and P180 per dozen for the local variety. Prices of golden rods are placed at P80 from P60, and baby's breath, at P60 from P50 per bundle.
Dayrit also said that prices of bouquet also increased by as much as P200. “We use different kinds of flowers for the bouquet. The small one is sold at P400 from P300, the medium-sized bouquet is sold at P500 from P400, and the big one is sold at P700 from P500.”
While prices of flowers have increased, prices of candles are stable. In a quick visit in one of the stores in Bankerohan, the Unity Store, which sells wholesale and retail candles, candle sticks were still priced from P2.50 to P5, while those that are placed in glasses are sold from P23 to P32.
