House won't probe Jocjoc Bolante

THE House of Representatives is not keen on investigating the alleged fertilizer scam of former Agrarian undersecretary Jocelyn "Jocjoc" Bolante who recently returned to the Philippines after being deported from the United States.

Speaker Prospero Nograles said it would be futile for them to join in the investigation since their power is only recommendatory.

Nograles said the investigation is best left in the hands of the Ombudsman who has the authority over Bolante who is a former government official.

The Dabawenyo Speaker said it is good that Bolante has returned to the country to finally clear the air and end the controversy over the alleged multi-million-peso fertilizer scam that was allegedly used during the 2004 presidential bid of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

"Everyone wants Jocjoc to clear the air and end the controversy," Nograles said.

Asked if the fertilizer anomaly would be included in the latest impeachment case filed in the House, Nograles said he is not sure. He added though that what is certain is that the Filipino people are tired of the yearly impeachment cases filed against the President.

Nograles expressed confidence though that the impeachment case against Arroyo would not prosper in the House. (BOT)
