Friday, October 31, 2008 Nogie won't file raps over demolition of park
HOUSE Speaker Prospero Nograles is no longer interested in filing charges against the government agency responsible for the demolition of the multi-million-peso Nograles Park.
In an interview at his birthday party Wednesday, Nograles said what he wants now is to get the legal opinion of national government agencies so as to avoid another government project from being demolished outright by a local government.
"Gamay na butang na, di namo pag-awayan na. We just want to know the legal opinion of the DILG and DOJ on the issue," Nograles said. "Mabuti na rin yung ma-clear natin kung kelangan ba talagang ang isang national agency would still go thru the motion of getting permits from the local government."
The Speaker, however, said that something was amiss in the City Government's immediate implementation of the demolition order.
It was learned that the notice for demolition was served by the City Government on a Friday and the demolition was made the following Monday.
"Who would suffer here? It's the government kasi pera naman ng government yan eh. I think the local government should be flexible on these projects," Nograles said.
He advised the city to immediately stop any project it thinks would have a negative impact on the city's programs so as to avoid wasting money. The Nograles Park that cost close to P2 million to build.
He said though that the incident would not stop him from implementing projects in his district. (BOT)
