20 truckloads of debris found under Nograles Park

THE Davao City's Drainage Maintenance Unit (DMU) has recovered 80 cubic meters or about 20 trucks-full of dirt under the demolished Nograles Park along Piapi Boulevard, Davao City.

This is contrary to House Speaker Prospero Nograles's claim that the park has not clogged the canal below it.

Retired colonel Yusop Jimlani, DMU chief, said that in a few days of clearing operations within 33 meters of the 133-meter stretch park, they have recovered so much debris in the canal.

Jimlani said the debris is what causes flooding in the area.

He said they expect more dirt under the remaining 100-meter stretch of the covered canal. Jimlani said they have scheduled the demolition of 71 more structures along Mini-Forest canal, including the one owned by former city councilor Amilbangsa Manding.

Jimlani said that for as long as there is no court order stopping him from demolishing all illegal structures located above the canal, he would continue doing so.

Asked if he was relieved by the Speaker’s decision not to proceed with his plan to file charges over the demolition of Nograles Park, Jimlani said he does not back out of any fight.

"This latest combat of mine is a good one dahil (because it’s) more on legality and kailangan gamitan ng konting utak," Jimlani said. (BOT)
