The lot was donated by a brother of Compostela Valley Governor Arturo Uy for the purpose of a sports dome.
Uy, during Monday's Kapehan sa Dabaw, said his brother is willing to make some adjustments for the City Government, if any, and has no intention of reacquiring the property.
This was brought into focus as the deed of donation also states that the donor has the right to reacquire the property, including the developments therein, if the project is not finished within two years.
"We are not foreclosing the idea of using the lot for another purpose provided that the proposed structure will be safe for the people who will use it," Avisado said.
The construction of the Artica Sports Dome, which started during the administration of former Mayor Benjamin de Guzman, was halted due to controversies and issues on safety.
Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)-Southern Mindanao Director Edilberto Arreza said the contentious issue at that time was that the structure was near a fault line and the building plans were not apt for the needs of such a geographical location.
An earlier inspection of the structure also showed substandard columns.
"But as long as changes in design and foundation are made to address those needs, the property can still be built on," Arreza said.
He added that one of the reasons they stopped the construction was that the former mayor did not apply for an environmental compliance certificate.
"Gusto nila certificate of non-coverage lang which is not allowed," Arreza said.
Avisado, meanwhile, said the city is looking for another sports complex site, as the property of the University of Philippines in Mintal is currently being contested. (GLP)
