City ready to face raps over demolition
By Grace L. Plata

IN DEFENSE of Drainage Maintenance Unit (DMU) chief Yusop Jimlani, City Administrator Wendel Avisado said Davao City is ready to face any possible charge in relation to the demolition jobs being done to clear the city's drainage system.

"The mayor has spoken and whatever the mayor says, goes," Avisado said in Monday's edition of Kapehan sa Dabaw at the SM Entertainment Plaza.

Avisado said the recently demolished Nograles Park and other structures on top of the Ponce Creek stretch is the first “base” or waterway utilized by the city.

"We have three streets where the usual wastewater runs off to. Ito yung Ponce, Quezon Boulevard and Gempesaw. Nauna lang yung sa Ponce Creek area but the others are soon to follow," Avisado said.

The clearing process, Avisado said, is fast tracked not only because of the flooding problems but also because the city is renting the equipment used.

He added that the City Engineer's Office, as per the mayor's order, is currently making the study of the areas where the city has to acquire lots in order to expand and improve the drainage system.

Since this is costly, Avisado said the mayor wants the areas really needed by the city.
