Young del Rosario eyes Congress race

FORMER Davao del Norte vice governor Anthony del Rosario is gunning for a congressional seat in 2010 in the first district of Davao del Norte, avoiding what can be a clash with incumbent Second District Representative Anton Lagdameo.

"Para matapos na ang speculations (This is so speculations would end)," del Rosario said.

The young del Rosario added that his father, Governor Rodolfo del Rosario, will be running for reelection in 2010.

Speculations have been running high since the much-denied fallout between the powerful Floirendo family of Davao del Norte and the del Rosarios in the 2007 elections that saw the elder del Rosario gunning for the gubernatorial race when retiring Representative Antonio "Tonyboy" R. Floirendo Jr. was intending to seek the same position.

With that as background, political pundits have been speculating that the del Rosarios will challenge the Floirendos in their turf, the second district, by 2010.

In Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte was quick to douse talks fanned by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's visit to his favorite watering hole last week, saying that he is not being courted to be a presidential bet in 2010.

"No, I will not run," was Duterte's quick response to the query of reporters last Saturday. "I will retire after 2010."

The city mayor, however, did not say anything about the plans of his children, Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio and Association of Barangay Captains president Paolo Duterte. (CPM)
