Avisado invites investors for convention facilities

DAVAO City Administrator Wendel Avisado urged the private sector to put up convention facilities that could house large groups.

"We need a bigger venue for these national events and conventions. The Philippine Ad Congress, for instance, they wanted to have it in Davao but we do not have a bigger venue here," Avisado said.

"I am posing a challenge to the private sector to build these facilities. They could form a consortium to realize the project. After all, it will be them who will mostly profit from it," Avisado added.

According to him, the city could not undertake such project considering the many concerns and expenditures at present, primary of which is to address flooding concerns and the drainage system.

Avisado said the city has already done its part in terms of support services to ensure the private sector can pursue such projects.

"We took care of the peace and order, established a traffic signalization system and the 911 emergency rescue. Compared to other cities, cost of business is still low here and we also have a program for investment incentives. So, it is up to the private sector to make further developments," Avisado said.
