PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) William "Butch" Ramirez has called for a consultative meeting with amateur boxing stakeholders in Southern Mindanao in an effort to map out an honest-to-goodness program for the country still seeking its first-ever Olympic gold.
Ramirez was recently named as Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) representative for Southern Mindanao in an election that installed Ricky Vargas as the new president, replacing Manny Lopez.
Not wanting to waste time after given the job, Ramirez has arranged a meeting on November 8 at Dencia's Restaurant to hear from the region's different boxing officials the status of their programs.
Ramirez is also expected to talk and impart on the boxing heads his plans on how to improve the program and come up with a positive result.
The country is still banking on boxing as a gold medal source in the 2012 London Games.
Some of those expected to attend the meeting as former congressman Tonyboy Floirendo and Davao del Norte Representative Anton Lagdameo.
