NPA rebels abduct a policeman in Caraga
By Ben O. Tesiorna

MEMBERS of the New People's Army in Caraga, Davao Oriental Wednesday morning, abducted a policeman.

Military report showed that the rebels, in full military uniform, conducted a checkpoint at the vicinity of Barangay Baugo at around 7 a.m. on November 5.

Three policemen identified as Sr. Insp. Sumagaysay, PO2 Tumol and PO1 Pederezo, were on board a private vehicle and passed by the rebel checkpoint.

The rebels who thought he was just a civilian driver did not accost Sumagaysay, who was driving the vehicle and clad in civilian clothes.

The rebels meanwhile cuffed Tumol. It is not clear how Pederezo was able to escape from the rebels.

The rebels also carted the policeman's M16 rifle and a .45 caliber pistol.

The three policemen belong to the 1005th Police Mobile Group and were on their way to Davao City to attend a court hearing when accosted by the more than 40 rebels led by Nemesio Monday alias Kumander Rex.

The Army's 67th Infantry Battalion is still conducting a rescue operation. (BOT)
