Friday, November 07, 2008 Rody: Council to finish review of zoning ordinance By Grace L. Plata
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is now confident that the City Council can finish the review of the city's zoning ordinance within the first half of 2009 as targeted.
The City Planning and Development Office, on the other hand, is targetting the last quarter of 2009.
"Hindi pwedeng apurahin yan because it needs extensive study," Duterte said.
The mayor, however, said the current zoning classifications do not necessarily have to be adopted after the review.
The review also aims to catalogue properties that have been reclassified through the years.
"The first district, originally, yan talaga ating commecial area. Industrial zone ang north side while agricultural naman sa south side. But with our dynamic economy, there has been changes on the classification of these lands," Duterte said.
The mayor added there is no such thing as a permanent zoning classification.
"The classification has to change to fit the reality and needs of the moment," Duterte said.
The review of the Zoning Ordinance of 1996 has been eyed for sometime now. According to the law, it has to be reviewed every 5 years but that has not been done since it was crafted.(GLP)
