Friday, November 07, 2008 MCG still accepting tot baseball teams
INTERESTED teams may still sign up for the 1st Mindanao Children's Games Little League Baseball Tournament slated November 14 to 16 at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina campus diamond.
Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (Paba) vice president for Mindanao Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.
"We are still accepting teams until the tournament opens on Friday next week. This is a good venue for 12 years old and under players from both public and private schools to compete," Sarabia said.
He said teams from Midsayap, North Cotabato, Mati, Davao Oriental, Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School, and Sta. Ana Central Elementary School confirmed to join the free registration meet that aims to foster brotherhood and camaraderie among children athletes of Mindanao.
"Tagum called but it has yet to confirm its entry. Davao City has lots of strong teams that come from far-flung districts but the thought of transportation and logistics expenses throughout the three-day duration of the meet hinder them from joining. I hope this concern can be addressed by our city officials," Sarabia said.
The MCG, a brainchild of Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch" Ramirez, is part of the Mindanao Sports for Peace Program that also includes the Mindanao Friendship Games and the Sports for Peace program. MLSA
